Wednesday 20 December

After a very late start to our first dinner together, we a grand time, but a late finish.

Sam and the cheeky bartender

Brekky at the hotel followed by some rest and attempted snoozing - Sam still catching up on sleep after her long journey, and me unused to going out to dinner after 10pm.  We've been warned multiple times about the dangers and high crime rate in Buenos Aires and so were very content to not venture too far.

Most shops have security doors where you have to be buzzed in to enter.  This is the case in some restaurants too, and our hotel has a doormen and security system 24 hours to ensure only guests enter the building.  There are a lot of homeless people asking for money, and very confronting to see people with young babies and kids staying hours on the footpaths.

We had an early dinner and then home to pack for our 4am start for the flight to Ushuaia.  Sam spent a sleepless night after the Aerolineas Argentinas checkin process told her she had no seat allocated, and I spent a sleepless night because that's what I do.

So we were very tired little travellers setting off the airport at 5am, but happy to have our driver get us there the required 3 hours prior to flight departure.

  1. Ooh locked in and locked out- sounds like Melbourne during Covid.😱 Must be quite creepy really; not the place for solo travellers. Just imagine venturing out, finding refuge in a store or deciding to go into a shop to browse. You are then a captive until they let you out. You’d have to tip generously 😁
Love the two photos above. Fantastic duo of course - and great props!

  2. Gosh it must have gone downhill since we were there. But not hard to imagine with the rate of inflation. Hopefully you are on board by now. Jo
