Excitement - Landings and Activities tomorrow!
So right now we are the equivalent of country kids before Show Day level of excitement. The afternoon recap/briefing confirmed we will do a landing and activities tomorrow. We won't quite be on the peninsula but this has not lessened our excitement at all.
The activities on this expedition are Kayaking, Sea Paddling, Snowshoeing, Snorkeling and 'Linda Level'. Well okay it is not REALLY called that, and less than half of passengers are doing the crazy activities, but I had to call it something. 😆
The Linda Level does not involve: additional cost, the need to transfer from a zodiac to a kayak and back again (plus actual kyaking obs), paddling, being kitted with belts and straps lest one fall down a ravine, wearing a dry suit and freezing one's face. The Linda level offers walks, strolls, climbs (if one must) of varying degrees on land, and being ferried about on zodiacs.
I note though that the preponderance of slim, fit, healthy passengers 60+ is having a detrimental effect on my ability to play the oldie card for special treatment. I may have to break out the sling.
There's a daily 4pm afternoon tea spread which we'd not attended before, given the amount of food on offer at mealtimes. Today they announced it was a 'special Christmas' one, so please come. Good heavens, what a ridiculous amount of delicious food. I was congratulating myself on only choosing ONE scone/jam/cream from the buffet, then realised I had arrived at the let-me-cook-you-a-delicious-fresh-crepe part. So yes, you can guess the ending.
I ditched the arvo briefing and took the opportunity for some no-company time in the observation lounge, with a glass of wine, headphones listening to the latest Thursday Murder Club audio book, watching the remarkable sea birds and our approach to iceberg #2. Perfect.

We had an early dinner, seated again with Luke and Joanna who have signed up for snowshoeing - which they had interpreted as walking in snow. They are a little alarmed with all the 'how to avoid falling down crevices' briefing content, but also very excited.
Marvin the Marvellous was our waiter this evening, finishing off with the evergreen fake walking down stairs routine. All the staff - and there are so many - are indeed marvellous. It's great to see the Expedition Activity staff also joining in all meals and on ship activities during the day.
So it's hopefully an early and restful night for us, ahead of incredible Christmas Day adventures. xxx

Kirsten is reading this aloud at Christmas lunch. Very popular. My browser is refusing to let me sign in to post.Richard x
ReplyDeleteThat's hilarious and I can think of no better narrator than Kirsten. RR the comment function is being very unhelpful. I had to disable the auto block of 3rd party cookies.
DeleteOh my goodness. You could just be on the cruise to eat and drink. No doubt everyone will know you now seeing there’s a special category for Miss Linda. Great that they do this but shame you’re not more mobile. Dreadful shoulder surgery does that to you. I hope Miss Sam is behaving. Merry Christmas to you both. Looking forward to peace and harmony in New Year. Love Jule
ReplyDeleteWell to be fair, at least half the passengers are taking the Linda Level, rather than the Sam Levels of activity.
