Gold Harbour zodiac shots 1 January-pm

 The intrepid explorers take to the water for a zodiac exploration of Gold Harbour. The weather was perfect, although the sun did peak in and out at times. We were unable to make a landing due to the avian flu in the area, but the backup plan of going by zodiac is pretty good. Again, Sam will have lots of close-ups of the action to add in her post, but here is a taster.

King penguins The year old chicks look like little haystacks in their fur coats 


And of course they look so comical, half fur, half feathers as they fledge.


The sheer scale of the setting and the number of penguins and seals is mind boggling. 




Elephant seals are somewhat larger than penguins.






And for the What am I looking at photo of the day, is the very large figure towards the back a man in a penguin suit or a very tall penguin?

  1. I can tell you two aren’t penguins or seals but are you part of the maintenance gangs with those hats or still pretending you’re Vietnamese? The penguins must be quite bemused by these peculiar visitors.
